Three police officers suspended for allegedly taking money from scrap dealer in Kochi

Three policemen attached to the Kalamassery station have been suspended for allegedly taking around ₹1 lakh from a scrap dealer during an investigation.

The officers facing disciplinary action are sub-inspectors Sebastian Chacko and Shameer and civil police officer Jijo.

Sources with the Kochi City police said action against the officers was initiated following allegations of misconduct during the investigation into a theft case involving an Assam native. The accused had escaped police custody while being taken to the Aluva district hospital for medical examination in July. He was later arrested.

“It is alleged that the three officers took money from the scrap dealer after finding that he had links with the accused in the theft case,” a senior officer said. He added that further investigation into the allegation was on.
