Two men die in collision on New Forest main road

The two men who succumbed to their injuries early Wednesday morning after a collision on the New Forest main road in Manchester have been identified.

They are Meldon Knibbs of Plowden district and Phillip Beharie of Duff House, both in Manchester.

They were pronounced dead at hospital.

According to the police, the men were on a motorcycle which collided with a Honda motorcar that was overtaking a Toyota RAV4.

The incident happened around 7 am.

The 21-year-old female driver of the Honda has been admitted to hospital for treatment.

The latest fatalities have prompted yet another appeal from vice chairman of the National Road Safety Council, Dr Lucien Jones, for increased caution on the roads.

Dr Jones also renews a call for surveillance cameras to accompany the planned implementation of the demerit point system.

Dr. Lucien Jones, chairman of the National Road Safety Council.

Under the system, demerit points are added to a driver’s traffic record when specified offences are committed.

A driver’s licence is automatically suspended once the accumulated points reach a prescribed threshold.

And the latest fatalities bring to 14 the total number recorded across the island in the first 12 days of August.

The number reported since the start of 2026 now moves to 201.

Prior to Wednesday morning’s fatal collision, the most recent road fatality was recorded on Tuesday.

In that incident, a 42-year-old male pedestrian was killed in May Pen, Clarendon.

Also Tuesday, two passengers died in a crash on Queens Highway in St Ann.

The National Road Safety Council says it’s imperative that road users take extreme caution on the roads.
