ENGIE customers can now pay their bills via RoPay both online and at customer service centers, using the SoftPOS app operated by company representatives. For ING Bank Romania, this is the first integration of RoPay into the SoftPOS app, marking a new step in the expansion of the national instant payment service.

The service includes two components:

  • To pay bills online, customers can use RoPay both through the MyENGIE app and on the dedicated payments page at engie.ro. Payment is confirmed directly in the mobile banking app, without having to enter an IBAN, card details, or save a payment method on the ENGIE platform.
  • At ENGIE customer service centers, RoPay is integrated into the SoftPOS app used by company representatives. They generate a QR code on their phone corresponding to the payment amount, and the customer scans it using their mobile banking app and confirms the transaction. The payment confirmation is instantly sent to ENGIE, allowing the transaction to be completed quickly.

The expansion of RoPay to ENGIE demonstrates just how quickly the payment experience can evolve when banking infrastructure, technology, and customers’ real needs come together in one place. The fact that 8.4 million customers can use RoPay Alias for peer-to-peer transfers and over 6.67 million customers can already use RoPay for e-commerce shows us that there is a solid foundation for instant mobile payments. Following the rollouts in e-commerce and the recurring payments sector, we are now taking a new step: we are also activating RoPay in the SoftPOS app, so that instant payments can be accepted more easily at physical retail locations,” says Raluca Țintoiu, Head of Wholesale Banking at ING Bank Romania.

The solution offers companies greater flexibility in managing payments at physical customer touchpoints, without relying exclusively on traditional POS terminals.

“We want to offer our customers the simplest, fastest, and most secure experiences possible in their interactions with ENGIE and expanding our payment options is part of that effort. By integrating RoPay into both our digital platforms and our physical service centers, we’re offering customers a modern way to pay their bills directly from their mobile banking app, without any extra steps. We are pleased to collaborate with ING Bank Romania and TRANSFOND to bring this solution closer to our customers and to support the adoption of digital, fast, and accessible payment methods,” said Cristian Tudose, Managing Director B2C – ENGIE Romania.

ENGIE Romania is joining the growing number of merchants adopting RoPay. ING developed these payment solutions in collaboration with its clients, including Auchan, Generali, PPC, eMAG, and Digi Romania, and similar implementations have also been carried out by MedLife and Hidroelectrica, together with their partner banks.

RoPay was built as a standardized solution that enables the use of instant payments in a wide variety of contexts, regardless of the user’s bank or the channel through which the payment is initiated. The implementation for ENGIE demonstrates the infrastructure’s ability to support different payment scenarios, ranging from online transactions to in-person payments at physical locations. For the market, it is important that such solutions be easily recognizable and available within a secure framework,” said Sabin Carantină, General Manager of TRANSFOND.
