Family Mourns Death of One-Year-Old Suspected of Drowning in River Nearby their Fugalei Home

A family is mourning the tragic loss of their one-year-old son who is suspected to have drowned in a river that runs behind their home at Fugalei.

Police Commissioner Leiataua Samuelu Afamasaga says Police investigations are underway into the cause of death of the boy, who was found at around 4pm on Monday afternoon.

Police say they are conducting an investigation on the circumstances surrounding the boy’s death.

“Preliminary findings are that the boy was home with his grandmother, and she was unaware of when the toddler wondered off,” said the Acting Commissioner.

Police have not confirmed if suspicious activity has been ruled out.

The boy’s father said he was not home at the time of the incident.

Last week on Friday before Father’s Day, a horrific bus accident killed a 7-year-old boy at Faleasiu while he was coming home from school.

The Acting Police Commissioner has urged families to please take extra care in the supervision of children, to avoid tragic accidents.
