NTFONJENI –The handover ceremony of the Lokhwishi Suspension Footbridge at Ntfonjeni Constituency in the Hhohho Region was not only a celebration of development but also a vibrant showcase of Eswatini’s rich cultural heritage, with traditional performances adding colour and excitement to the event.
The ceremony featured captivating cultural activities, including Sibhaca, Ummiso and Ingadla, as traditional groups entertained guests, community members and stakeholders gathered to witness the official handover of the footbridge.
The energetic Sibhaca performance brought a lively atmosphere to the ceremony, with dancers showcasing the strength, discipline and unity associated with Eswatini’s traditional dance. The performances also provided an opportunity for the community to celebrate its heritage while marking an important development milestone.
Ummiso and Ingadla further enriched the programme, with the performers demonstrating traditional songs, dances and cultural expressions that highlighted the importance of preserving Eswatini’s customs and traditions.
The cultural performances were warmly received by those in attendance, creating a sense of pride and unity among community members. They also demonstrated how development initiatives can be accompanied by cultural celebrations that bring communities together.
The Lokhwishi Suspension Footbridge is expected to make movement easier and safer for residents, particularly those who previously faced challenges crossing the area. The project was implemented with support from the Microprojects Programme and students from the United States of America through Engineers in Action.
The handover therefore marked more than the completion of infrastructure; it was a celebration of community, culture and development, with the traditional performances serving as a reminder of the importance of keeping Eswatini’s cultural heritage alive.
