Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly reviewed a proposal to establish two integrated medical cities in the New Capital and New Alamein City as the government moves forward with plans to develop large-scale healthcare projects backed by foreign investment.
The meeting was attended by Minister of Health and Population Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, Minister of Housing, Utilities and Urban Communities Randa al-Minshawy, senior government officials and representatives of an international consortium of private companies.
Madbouly reviewed the proposed financial framework for the projects and stressed the importance of completing the necessary procedures to begin implementation as soon as possible.
Abdel Ghaffar said that the projects have been developed in cooperation with one of the world’s leading international healthcare consortiums and will be financed entirely through foreign direct investment (FDI).
He added that the two medical cities will include specialized hospitals, medical schools, research centers, training institutes, administrative facilities and advanced healthcare infrastructure built to international standards.
The minister noted that the projects are intended to expand specialized healthcare services, strengthen medical education and training, and support Egypt’s position as a regional destination for healthcare, medical research and medical tourism.
He also said the government will receive a significant share of hospital beds under the agreement to support the Universal Health Insurance System, increasing access to advanced medical services.
Representatives of the international consortium said total investment in the two projects will exceed $5 billion, including approximately $2.8 billion for the New Capital medical city and $2.5 billion for the New Alamein project.
They said that the projects will rely mainly on Egyptian doctors and healthcare professionals and are expected to strengthen Egypt’s medical tourism sector. The consortium added that the New Capital medical city could attract more than three million medical tourists during its first three years of operation.
The developers also said they are evaluating several locations in New Alamein before selecting the final site, adding that the project will include hotels and integrated facilities designed to support medical tourism.
At the end of the meeting, Madbouly directed the formation of a joint working group comprising representatives of the relevant Egyptian authorities and the international consortium to finalize the technical, financial and legal arrangements ahead of the start of construction.
