Andhra Pradesh cabinet meeting, chaired by Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu, is scheduled to be held today (Thursday) at the Secretariat. Decisions are likely to be taken after discussing over 30 key agenda items. The cabinet is expected to decide on inviting re-tenders for the ‘Amaravati I’ project and on a proposal to lease up to 10 additional acres of land for it. Discussions will be held regarding awarding the construction work of the Quantum Valley Twin Towers to L&T; the cabinet is likely to approve loan mobilization for this project, which has an estimated cost of ₹1,002.49 crore.
The cabinet will discuss the additional consultancy costs associated with the designs for the Assembly and High Court buildings and consider a proposal to increase the total project cost to ₹206.60 crore. Approval will be sought for the recommendations made by the Group of Ministers (GoM) regarding land allocations in Amaravati. The cabinet is likely to greenlight a loan of ₹300 crore to cover annuity payments due to farmers who participated in the land pooling scheme. A key decision regarding the resolution of the Vaikunthapuram Inam lands dispute is expected, and the cabinet will also discuss a payment of ₹122.20 crore to the Endowments Department.
Additionally, the cabinet will consider a proposal to grant special relaxations for the redevelopment of the Velampeta slum in Visakhapatnam. Approval is likely for a housing project benefiting 177 poor families at a cost of ₹28.44 crore. Decisions are expected regarding the establishment of new Urban Development Authorities (UDAs) in Bhimavaram, Markapuram, and Nandyal, as well as changes to the jurisdictions and mergers of existing UDAs. The Cabinet is set to approve the ‘Pedestrian Safety Policy–2026’ and discuss a new policy for footpath development and the implementation of road safety audits across the state.
The Cabinet will decide on legislative amendments required to extend the lease periods for lands allocated to educational and medical institutions. A green signal is likely for renewing municipal land leases beyond the 25-year term. The Cabinet will also deliberate on amendments to the Andhra Pradesh Disha Bill. Additionally, there is likely to be a discussion on the proposal to continue the subsidized electricity tariff of ₹1.50 per unit for fish and shrimp farming units until June 1, 2026.
