THE government emphasises the importance of 5G, artificial intelligence and industry collaboration in working towards accelerating innovation, productivity and business competitiveness.
Communications Minister Datuk Seri Fahmi Fadzil has described U Mobile’s Enterprise Innovation Platform Hub (EIP Hub) as a timely industry-driven initiative that will strengthen Malaysia’s digital ecosystem through advanced technology adoption, innovation and public-private collaboration.
Speaking at the launch of the EIP Hub at the Subang Hi-Tech Industrial Park in Subang Jaya, Selangor, on Thursday, Fahmi said Malaysia had made significant progress in strengthening the digital foundations required to support future economic growth.
He said the MADANI Government, through the Ministry of Communications and the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), remained committed to expanding high-quality connectivity, strengthening digital infrastructure and creating an environment conducive to investment, innovation and enterprise development.
Fahmi said technologies including 5G-Advanced, artificial intelligence (AI), cloud computing, the Internet of Things (IoT) and automation were transforming industries worldwide, with the potential to reshape sectors ranging from manufacturing and healthcare to agriculture, logistics, financial services, retail, energy and public services.
However, he stressed that technology alone could not deliver meaningful transformation, as businesses needed confidence, expertise and ecosystem support to adopt new solutions, validate ideas and scale innovative applications.
“This is why today’s launch is both timely and significant. The Enterprise Innovation Platform Hub represents the kind of industry-led initiative that complements the Government’s efforts to accelerate enterprise digital transformation,” he said.
Fahmi said the EIP Hub would create a collaborative ecosystem connecting enterprises, technology providers, innovators, academia and the public sector, allowing ideas to be tested, solutions validated and emerging technologies commercialised more rapidly.
He said such collaboration would accelerate the adoption of 5G and AI-driven applications, enhance productivity, strengthen competitiveness and unlock new opportunities for economic growth.
“This is exactly the type of public-private collaboration Malaysia needs as we continue building a stronger digital economy,” he said.
The Minister also stressed that trust, security and resilience must progress alongside innovation as digital technologies become increasingly integrated across all sectors of the economy.
He said the government remained committed to strengthening cybersecurity, enhancing network resilience and promoting the responsible and ethical adoption of AI to ensure sustainable and inclusive digital development.
“As more organisations embrace digital technologies, trust will become just as important as innovation. Businesses must have confidence that the digital infrastructure they rely on is secure. Consumers must have confidence that their data is protected. And organisations must adopt Artificial Intelligence responsibly, transparently and ethically,” he said.
Fahmi encouraged industry players to leverage platforms such as the EIP Hub not only to accelerate innovation, but also to strengthen cybersecurity practices, promote responsible AI adoption, share best practices and develop trusted digital capabilities.
He commended U Mobile for bringing together anchor partners, advisory panel members, technology leaders, innovators, academic institutions and public sector stakeholders through the initiative.
“This collaborative model exemplifies the whole-of-ecosystem approach that Malaysia requires to unlock the full potential of emerging technologies,” he said.
Fahmi said the government would continue providing enabling policies and regulatory certainty, while industry would drive investment and commercial innovation, and academia would develop talent, research capabilities and future-ready skills.
He urged enterprises to embrace the platform by bringing forward challenges, experimenting with new ideas and collaborating across industries to develop scalable solutions.
“Because innovation begins with a willingness to think differently and to solve problems together,” he said.
Fahmi also called on technology partners and innovators to continue developing practical 5G and AI-powered applications that improve productivity, strengthen industries and create new opportunities for Malaysian businesses.
He added that academic and research institutions would play a vital role in nurturing future digital talent and translating research into commercial innovation that contributes to Malaysia’s long-term competitiveness.
