Yobe Assembly Seeks FG, Stakeholders’ Help For Flood Victims

Yobe State House of Assembly has appealed to the federal government, wealthy individuals, and donor agencies to provide relief assistance to victims of the recent flood disaster in the Damaturu local government area.

The call followed a motion of urgent public importance moved by the member representing Damaturu II Constituency, Alhaji Buba Ibrahim Kalallawa, during plenary.

Presenting the motion, the lawmaker said the flood affected the communities of Dikumari, Malum Matari, Maduri, Malari, and Pompomari, claiming two lives and destroying property worth millions of naira.
Kalallawa expressed concern over the devastating impact of the disaster, noting that many families had been displaced and their livelihoods destroyed.

The lawmaker commended the state government for its prompt response through the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), describing the intervention as timely in alleviating the suffering of the victims and supporting their recovery.

Presiding over the sitting, the Speaker of the House, Alhaji Chiroma Buba Mashio, prayed that Almighty Allah grant eternal rest to those who lost their lives and give their families the strength and fortitude to bear the loss.

In another development, the House adopted the report of its Standing Committee on Basic and Secondary Education on the bill seeking to establish the State Senior Secondary Education Fund.
