As Minister for Youth and Sports and Minister for Mental Health, Wellness and Religious Affairs, I am deeply saddened by the passing of 24-year-old Francis Rennie, who succumbed to injuries sustained during the recent incident at La Fillette.
I extend my deepest condolences to his family, loved ones, and friends. Today, a family mourns the loss of a son, and a community grieves a young life taken far too soon. Francis had dreams, aspirations, and a future ahead of him, making this loss even more heartbreaking.
I am also mindful of the families of the young men charged in connection with this matter and currently on remand. As the judicial process takes its course, they too are facing a difficult and painful period and remain in our thoughts and prayers.
This tragedy is a sobering reminder of the devastating consequences of violence. As our carnival celebrations continue, I urge everyone to celebrate responsibly, resolve conflicts peacefully, and respect one another.
May God grant comfort to the family and loved ones of Francis Rennie, and strength to all those affected by this tragedy, and peace within our communities.
Hon. Delma Thomas, Ministry of Youth and Sports
