Lesotho today celebrated its boxing bronze medalists with a heroes’ welcome following their achievement on the international stage.
The celebrations began with a ceremonial escort from the national border to Makoanyane Square in Maseru. The square was built in 1925 to honour the nation’s heroes.
The boxing bronze medalists were received by the Minister of Tourism, Sport, Arts and Culture, Honourable Stephen Mputi, senior government officials, Members of Parliament, representatives of the Lesotho Sport and Recreation Commission, the Lesotho National Olympic Committee and members of the public.
The achievement inspires the next generation of Basotho athletes.
The occasion marked the medals and the athletes’ dedication, resilience and commitment to representing Lesotho.
Celebrations continue tomorrow. The medalists will present their medals to the Right Honourable Prime Minister, Honourable Sam Matekane.
They will return to Makoanyane Square for further public celebrations. Basotho will have the opportunity to view the medals that brought pride to the nation.
