South African hip-hop heavyweight Nasty C lived up to his billing as one of the most anticipated acts at the Standard Bank Luju Food & Lifestyle Festival, delivering a high-energy headline performance that had thousands of revellers singing, dancing and rapping along to his biggest hits.

The award-winning rapper, whose appearance was among the major highlights of the festival’s opening day, took to the main stage with the confidence and command of an artist accustomed to performing before massive crowds.

From the moment he stepped onto the stage, the atmosphere at House on Fire was transformed into a sea of excitement, with fans eagerly awaiting a set that promised to take them through some of the biggest songs from his catalogue.

Nasty C wasted little time getting into the action, opening his carefully curated set with ‘Strings and Bling.’ The choice immediately struck a chord with the crowd. Thousands of festivalgoers joined in, singing along to the lyrics as the rapper moved across the stage, feeding off the energy coming from the audience.

The set continued with ‘Eazy’, followed by ‘Stallin’, as the rapper seamlessly moved between tracks and kept the crowd engaged.

However, one of the biggest moments of the night came when he performed his hit ‘Hell Naw’.

The rapper then brought out another crowd favourite, ‘Juice Back’, before moving into ‘Particular’.

One of the most poignant moments came when Nasty C paid tribute to the late South African rapper AKA, also known as Kiernan Forbes.

Introducing ‘Lemonade’, his collaboration with AKA, Nasty C acknowledged his late friend and fellow hip-hop star.

“Rest in Peace to Super Mega, long live Super Mega,” he said, prompting an emotional response from the crowd.

Nasty C then returned to the energetic side of the set with ‘Head Up’, keeping the audience on their feet as he approached the finale. For his closing number, the rapper selected one of his biggest crowd-pleasers, ‘SMA.’

It proved to be a fitting conclusion to the headline performance. The crowd sang along word for word, with thousands of voices combining to create an almost choir-like rendition of the song.

As the final notes rang out across the festival grounds, Nasty C thanked the crowd and expressed his appreciation for the warm reception he received in Eswatini. “I’m so happy to be with you beautiful people. Thank you, Eswatini,” he told the revellers.

He then brought his well-curated set to a close, leaving the crowd with a performance that combined nostalgia, high-energy hip-hop and a heartfelt tribute to one of the genre’s fallen stars.
