Minister of Finance of Mongolia and UN Resident Coordinator discuss promoting regional development

AKIPRESS.COM – Minister of Finance Mendsaikhan Zagdjav met with United Nations Resident Coordinator to Mongolia Jaap van Hierden, Montsame reported.

During the meeting, the two sides discussed expanding cooperation to tackle poverty and promote regional development, noting that these remain key challenges despite Mongolia’s transition to an upper-middle-income country.

Minister Mendsaikhan requested that the UN consolidate information on projects, programs, grants and technical assistance implemented in Mongolia by UN specialized agencies. The information will be integrated into the government’s Public Investment Management Information System (PIMIS), which is used to improve transparency by making foreign loan- and aid-funded projects publicly accessible.

The Minister also expressed confidence that Mongolia and its development partners would continue to strengthen their friendly relations and work more closely together as the country advances to the next stage of development.

The two sides reviewed the implementation of the United Nations Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework (UNSDCF) 2023-2027. Minister Mendsaikhan reaffirmed the government’s commitment to addressing key development challenges, while the meeting also included an exchange of views on preparing the next UNSDCF for 2028-2032.

Resident Coordinator Jaap van Hierden proposed strengthening joint government-UN financing mechanisms to support implementation of the UNSDCF. Minister Mendsaikhan said the proposal would be examined and that relevant authorities would be instructed to explore practical implementation measures.

The Minister also met with members of the UN Country Team and expressed support for establishing a working group to identify opportunities for joint government financing under the Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework.
