A Maltese photojournalist René Rossignaud has shared a chilling account after a tourist plane crashed near Peru’s Nazca Lines, sharing how he flew on the same aircraft during a sightseeing trip seven years ago.

René Rossignaud told Lovin Malta that he was among a group of 12 Maltese travelling in Peru in 2018 when they booked a scenic flight over the UNESCO World Heritage Site.

According to Rossignaud, the flight was anything but enjoyable.

“The plane was pulling so many G-forces that most of us couldn’t even take photos because our bodies felt pinned to our seats. Many of us were sick,” he said.

After landing, Rossignaud said he and others complained to the pilots, telling them the flight had been reckless and should have been a safe, enjoyable experience.

“They laughed at us instead.”

Rossignaud even took a photo of himself kissing the ground after getting off the aircraft, saying he was relieved to be back on solid land.

The aircraft in his 2018 photo bears the same tail number as the Cessna Caravan C-208 that crashed yesterday after taking off for a sightseeing flight over the Nazca Lines, killing all 13 people on board.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
