Jakarta, IO – The Indonesian Olympic Committee (NOC Indonesia) has officially unveiled the country’s contingent for the 2026 Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan.
A total of 432 athletes competing in 35 sports will represent Indonesia at Asia’s biggest multi-sport event, which will take place from September 19 to October 4, 2026.
The delegation will also include 148 coaches and officials, along with a 32-member Chef de Mission (CdM) team. The final roster was determined following a comprehensive evaluation by the Ministry of Youth and Sports’ review team, NOC Indonesia’s Sports Commission, and each national sports federation, assessing athlete readiness and medal potential.
NOC Indonesia President Raja Sapta Oktohari said the Indonesian team heads into the Games with high confidence, continuing the country’s positive momentum on the Asian sporting stage.
“The Asian Games event is an opportunity showcasing the growth of Indonesian sports and we can compete with the best in Asia. Every athlete has gone through a rigorous selection process and extensive preparation. Now it’s time for them to compete with confidence, give their best, and make Indonesia proud,” said Okto.
Besides the sports receiving government funding through the state budget, boxing, fencing, and table tennis will participate under a self-funded scheme, with financial support coming from their respective federations and partners.
Despite the different funding model, Okto stressed that all athletes carry the same expectations and responsibilities.
“Once they become part of Team Indonesia, they share the same mission: give their best performance and fight for medals for Indonesia,” he said.
He added that the self-funded participation reflects the commitment and collective spirit to remain competitive. The three sports also underwent the same evaluation process, including assessments of athlete readiness, medal prospects, and operational preparations for the Games.
“Every athlete representing Team Indonesia will receive the same level of support, coordination, and services throughout the Asian Games. What matters is not where the funding comes from, but whether they’re ready to compete and bring pride to the nation,” Okto explained.

Minister of Youth and Sports Erick Thohir said the final roster was selected through an objective and professional review process to ensure that only athletes who are fully prepared to compete at the Asian level were chosen.
“The Ministry of Youth and Sports, together with NOC Indonesia and all national sports federations, is committed to sending our best athletes. Every athlete selected has gone through a strict evaluation process, and we’re confident Team Indonesia will be competitive at the Aichi-Nagoya 2026 Asian Games. Most importantly, we hope our athletes can compete with focus, uphold the spirit of sportsmanship, and give everything they have to make the nation proud,” Erick said.
He also welcomed the participation of sports competing under self-funded arrangements, calling it a strong example of collaboration.
“The self-funding scheme shows that building sporting excellence is a shared responsibility. The government appreciates the commitment of every federation and partner involved. Regardless of how they are funded, once they wear the Garuda emblem on their chest, they represent one name, Indonesia. I hope the entire contingent delivers its best performance and returns home with achievements that make the nation proud,” he added.
Indonesia’s Chef de Mission for the 2026 Asian Games, Todotua Pasaribu, said preparations are progressing smoothly and that his team is fully committed to ensuring athletes can focus on their performances.
“Everything is on track according to plan. We continue to coordinate closely with the Ministry of Youth and Sports, NOC Indonesia, and the national sports federations to make sure every aspect, from preparation and departure to accommodation, competition operations, and the team’s return home, runs smoothly. We’ll do everything we can to support our athletes so they can achieve their best results at the 2026 Asian Games,” Todotua said. (rp)
