LAWRENCE, Ind. (WISH) — A man died early Saturday after a two-vehicle crash near Pendleton Pike and East 46th Street, according to the Lawrence Police Department.

Police say they received a 911 call just before 2:30 a.m. about a traffic collision.

Officers arrived to find two heavily damaged vehicles, police say. One of the cars was empty. In the other car, officers found an unresponsive man who was entrapped, according to police.

Lawrence Fire Department and paramedics were on scene and determined the man had died from injuries sustained in the collision, according to police reports.

Officers searched the area and found a person walking less than a mile from the crash scene, according to Lawrence police.

The individual was detained after officers said injuries were consistent with a crash, including bleeding from the eye and arm and multiple scratches, police say. The person admitted to being involved in the crash, according to police.

Lawrence Police are investigating what led up to the crash; police say additional information will be released as it becomes available.
