The City of East Orange in New Jersey, United States, and the Ugwumba Leadership Centre for Africa have entered into a partnership aimed at promoting leadership development, human capital advancement, skills acquisition and youth empowerment.
The agreement followed a meeting between East Orange Mayor Ted Green and the founder of the Ugwumba Leadership Centre for Africa, Chief Uche Nwosu, in New Jersey.
According to a statement issued by the Ugwumba Leadership Centre on Saturday, the partnership will focus on leadership training, skills acquisition, knowledge exchange and community development initiatives in Nigeria and the United States.
It quoted Mayor Green as saying that the collaboration was intended to strengthen ties between East Orange and Nigeria through programmes that support leadership development and investment in human capital.
He said the initiative would also create opportunities for cooperation between the two communities.
During the meeting, the mayor presented Nwosu with the City of East Orange’s Award for Outstanding Leadership and Human Capacity Development and decorated him with the city’s official pin in recognition of what he described as Nwosu’s contributions to leadership and human capacity development.
Responding, Nwosu thanked the mayor and residents of East Orange for the recognition, describing it as an encouragement to expand the centre’s leadership and youth development initiatives.
“This partnership is about investing in people. It is an opportunity to develop leaders, empower young people and create lasting opportunities that will benefit our communities,” he said.
Nwosu also described the collaboration as an avenue to strengthen engagement between communities in Nigeria and the United States through leadership and capacity-building programmes.
He acknowledged members of his delegation, including Kings Umege, Chief Ewhoma Tony Okpokparoro, Prince Anozie Ugenyi and Kizito Umege, for supporting the visit.
The Ugwumba Leadership Centre for Africa said the partnership would coordinate programmes focused on leadership development, youth empowerment, skills acquisition and sustainable community development in both countries.
