The Alluri Sitarama Raju Bhogapuram International Airport is set to be officially inaugurated today in a grand ceremony. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will dedicate the new facility to the nation, with all arrangements in place for his visit.
Union Civil Aviation minister Kinjarapu Rammohan Naidu and State Minister for Human Resources Nara Lokesh already arrived at the airport, while Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu ID expected to arrive shortly. Prime Minister Modi will arrive from Delhi on a special flight at 10.45am who will be welcomed by AP Governor Abdul Nazeer, Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu, Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan, and other officials.
The Prime Minister will inspect the terminal building, which spans three levels and is designed to resemble a soaring fish. The terminal features local cultural displays, including Etikoppaka toys and photographs showcasing regional traditions. Later, will Modi travel in an open-top jeep to the public meeting venue, witnessing a ‘Thimsa’ dance performed by 13,000 tribal women and girls along the way.
The large event, set across 70 acres, will see Modi inaugurate the airport, alongside projects related to the Union Ministries of Road Transport, Highways, and Energy, with a combined outlay of Rs 17,912 crore. He will also lay foundation stones for various future projects.
Modi is scheduled to address a massive public gathering before departing for Delhi at 1:10 PM. The entire visit is expected to last around two and a half hours.
Security at the event has been heavily reinforced, with a 5-kilometre ‘No-Fly Zone’ established around the airport. A command control room operates using 300 CCTV cameras, supported by a four-tier security system involving 7,000 police personnel from the state and five tiers of central force.
Thorough inspections by dog and bomb squads have been carried out, and entry to the meeting venue will be strictly controlled through rigorous screening. A trial run of the Prime Minister’s convoy has already been completed to ensure smooth security arrangements.
