Housing, Construction and Water Supply Minister Dr. Susil Ranasinghe says the government will take action to complete housing projects abandoned under previous administrations based on the recommendations of a special committee appointed to review them.

Speaking at the meeting of the Ministerial Consultative Committee on Housing, Construction and Water Supply held in Parliament, the Minister said there are nearly 5,000 incomplete housing units across the country that were left unfinished due to various reasons.

He said the government is considering allocating funds through the 2027 Budget to launch a new programme aimed at completing these stalled housing projects.

According to the Minister, the committee has already begun its work by gathering information on the affected housing schemes, identifying houses that are suitable for occupation, and preparing recommendations on the measures required to complete them.

Dr. Ranasinghe said final decisions on the abandoned housing projects will be taken after the committee submits its recommendations.

He also announced that financial assistance will be provided next year to families requiring support to complete partially constructed houses, with around 2,000 families expected to benefit from the programme.
