Jamaica picked up another gold in a four medal haul on day 8 at the 23rd Commonwealth Games in Glasgow Scotland on Thursday.

Samantha Hall won the women’s Discus title with a 61.66m throw on her fourth attempt, beating Julia Tunks of Canada into second with 60.67m.

There were silver medals for Megan Simmonds in the 100m hurdles in 12.41 seconds and Ackelia Smith in the women’s Triple Jump with 14.04m while Shantae Foreman took the bronze with 13.96m.

Kerrica Hill failed to finish the 100m hurdles final.

Six more Jamaicans made it to finals in Track events on Thursday.

Alana Reid 22.64 seconds, Lavanya Williams 22.71 and Ashanti Moore 22.49 seconds, finished second in their respective semi-finals of the women’s 200m and will battle for medals on Friday.

On the men’s side Jevaughn Powell was second in his semi-final in 20.24 seconds to advance while Chris Taylor won semi-final one in 20.20 seconds…the third Jamaican Roshawn Clarke pulled up injured 50m into the race.

National record holder Navasky Anderson booked his spot in the men’s 800m final after clocking 1.45.38 seconds for fourth in his semi-final.

Meanwhile the National Netball team are through to the semi-finals after easing past Wales 74/28 in their final Pool B encounter.

Jamaica now has 8 medals, four gold, two silver and two bronze.
