Bakuriani hosts Open Judo Championship “Bakuriani 2026”

With the cooperation of the State Service for Veterans Affairs, the organization of the Abkhaz Judo Academy, and the support of the Government of the Autonomous Republic of Abkhazia, the Abkhazian Open Judo Championship “Bakuriani 2026” was held in Daba Bakuriani.

Boys and girls born in 2014-2015 and 2016-2017 from different regions of Georgia participated in the competition. It is noteworthy that about 100 athletes participating in the sports event in Daba Bakuriani were training during the 10-day meeting and were preparing for the championship.

Before the start of the championship, the director of the State Service for Veterans Affairs, Major-General Koba Kobaladze and the Minister of Education and Culture of the Autonomous Republic of Abkhazia, Giorgi Dzadzamia addressed the young athletes, wishing them good luck and expressed hope that in the future, they will name their country as the international Serbian, more than once and the victory basket On Bek, they will fly the Georgian flag. Koba Kobaladze and Giorgi Dzadzamia thanked the coaches of teen athletes for their efforts in raising a healthy generation.

The competition was held in 11 weight categories. The winners and prize-winners of the tournament were awarded medals, certificates and symbolic gifts established by the State Service for Veterans Affairs by the Deputy Director of the State Service for Veterans Affairs, Jandri Ubiria, Vice-President of the Georgian Wrestling Federation of Abkhazia, Head of the Monitoring and Audit Service of the State Service for Veterans Affairs, veteran of the Abkhaz, Samachablo and 2008 wars, Master of Sports in wrestling in judo, national category referee, Giorgi Edilashvili, Head of the Regional Management Department of the Service, Levan Amiridze, Giorgi Dzadzamia and Deputy Minister of Internally Displaced Persons, Igor Kopaliani.

As the president of Abkhazia Judo Academy, Koba Gegia stated, the Abkhazia Open Judo Championship was established in 2023 and is held every year. The goal of the tournament is to promote wrestling and judo in future generations, to establish a healthy lifestyle among adolescents, and to build friendly relationships among athletes from different regions of the country.

For information, the Memorandum of Mutual Cooperation between the State Service of Veterans Affairs and the Abkhazian Judo Academy was signed in 2024. Within the framework of the memorandum, the Abkhazian Judo Academy, where students-young people from 5 to 17 years old train in judo, trains children of veterans, socially vulnerable families, and families with many children.
