First Pulasa Fish of the Season Arrives in Yanam, auctioned for Rs. 14,000

The highly anticipated ‘Pulasa’ fish season commenced in Yanam in Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Konaseema district. With the inflow of flood water (Red mud water) in Godavari River, the first-ever Pulasa fish of this season arrived at the Yanam market. The fisherman caught a good quality of 1.5 kg Pulasa fish in their net. The first ever Pulasa fish of this season, which was caught in the nets of fisherman has brought smile to the faces of Yanam fishermen.

At the auction held in Yanam fish market, a fishing couple Ponamanda Bhadram and his wife Ratnam bought the first ever ‘Pulasa’ for ₹14,000. They in turn sold the fish to another fisherman for ₹14,500, making a profit of ₹500. Since many people are interested in season’s first catch, the market witnessed tug-of-war for the fish.

“The fish called Pulasa, which is mostly found in the coastal region, reaches the Godavari River system through sea with the inflow of flood water and red mud water in the river. With continued inflow of flood water we are hopeful of catching more fish in the days to come,” said the fishermen. Since Pulasa fish is very tasty, it is in great demand in the Telugu states and every non-vegetarian lover is waiting for this season to arrive.
