Tajay Gayle wins Long Jump Gold on day seven of Commonwealth Games

Jamaica picked up two more medals including a gold on day seven of the 23rd Commonwealth Games in Glasgow Scotland on Wednesday.

Wayne Walker tells us more.

2019 World Champion Tajay Gayle added Commonwealth Gold to his collection after cutting the Sand with 8.15m to win the men’s Long Jump title.

His compatriot Jordan Turner did 7.65m for ninth.

Lloydrica Cameron secured Bronze in the women’s Shot Put after throwing 17.87m

Meanwhile the five Jamaicans who faced the starter in 200m first round action are all through to the semi-finals.

Alana Reid and Lavanya Williams won their respective heats in 22.95 and 22.91 seconds while on the men’s side Roshawn Clarke and Jevaughn Powell won their heats in 20.56 and 20.28 respectively, and following them into the semis was Chris Taylor who was second in his heat in a season best 20.36

Shian Sakmon 55.33 and Sanique Walker 54.83 won their heats to advance to the final.

The National Netball team beat Scotland 45/43 to remain on the verge of making to the semi-finals.

Azar Wilmot in only her third game for Jamaica, led the scoring with 28 points from 35 attempts, Shanice Beckford 15 from 18 and Rhea Dixon 2 from four.

The women’s 3×3 Basketball team lost 21/8 to Australia in the semi-finals and will next face New Zealand on Thursday in the Bronze medal game.

Jamaica now have four medals, three gold and a bronze to be tenth in the medal table.
