Today marks 7 days since 44-year-old American visitor Elizabeth “Liz” Waddell was reported missing in Grenada, as local law enforcement, international partners, and her family are facing continued search and investigative efforts across land and sea.
Waddell, a doctor of physical therapy visiting the island from North Carolina, USA, was reported missing on Wednesday, 22 July 2026, after walking down to a beach pier located north of the Grand Anse Beach around midday.
Digital Footprint & Belongings: Between 11:46 am and 12:04 pm, security footage shows Waddell walking to the pier, entering the water from the jetty, and swimming away from the shoreline. Waddell reportedly left her mobile phone, identification, wallet and footwear at her accommodation, leaving investigators without GPS or other electronic location data.
Early Media Discrepancies: Early US media reports described Waddell as wearing a green bikini. However, the latest security footage showed her wearing an orange top and blue-and-white striped shorts, which her family confirmed.
Eyewitness Reports: Waddell’s female travel companion reportedly discovered her towel on the beach at 12:46 pm, and the Royal Grenada Police Force (RGPF) acknowledged receiving a report of a swimmer matching her description in open water seen at around 5:30 pm. Unverified claims that Waddell was seen at a grocery store the day after her disappearance have circulated in some US media reports. With Waddell’s identical twin sister having flown into Grenada on Saturday to join the search with Liz’s husband and other family members, careful corroboration of reported sightings remains essential.
Maritime & Harbour Logistics: Because Waddell was last seen on video entering the water, investigators have devoted significant resources to the marine search. Search efforts have included Coast Guard patrols, dive teams, aerial drone surveillance, and ocean-current analysis, while police continue appealing for information from anyone who may have been on or near the water that day.
Acting Commissioner of Police Randy Connaught previously confirmed that the RGPF is working closely with the US Embassy and the FBI Regional Office as investigators continue to review available physical and digital evidence.
