The Aux Lyons Combined School has received a generous donation of mathematics textbooks titled Achieve Mathematics Grade 1 to 3, marking a significant step toward strengthening numeracy skills among its young learners.
The initiative was funded by Republic Bank and supports the production of the book authored by educator Marvin Edgar. The donation reflects a continued commitment to educational development and academic excellence within the school community.
School Principal Lila Wilfred expressed heartfelt appreciation for the contribution, describing it as a powerful demonstration of belief in the transformative power of education.
“Today marks another important step in our continued efforts to strengthen numeracy and academic excellence within our school community,” Wilfred said. “We are deeply honored to welcome representatives from Republic Bank, whose generosity and commitment to education continue to make a meaningful impact in the lives of all our students.”

Country Manager Ron Leon, representing Republic Bank, shared the institution’s enthusiasm in being part of the initiative. He encouraged students to recognize the value of mathematics beyond the classroom.
“I don’t want you to think of math as something that teachers just force you to do,” Leon told students. “Mathematics is applicable in every aspect of life. Even if you want to pursue music, there are bars in a song — you must be able to count the beats. Everything you do in this life will require some level of mathematics.”
Leon also praised the structure and cultural relevance of the textbooks, noting that the incorporation of Saint Lucian heritage makes learning more relatable and engaging for students. He commended author Marvin Edgar and his editorial team for producing a resource that reflects local culture while maintaining strong academic standards.
Author Marvin Edgar underscored the fundamental importance of mathematics, describing it as one of the most critical subjects students will ever study.

“Mathematics is one of the most important subjects you will ever study,” Edgar emphasized. “You all have dreams and aspirations. Some of you may wish to become teachers, bankers, doctors, lawyers, accountants, pilots, or engineers. However, to achieve any of these goals, you must develop a strong foundation in mathematics.”
Edgar encouraged students to strive for excellence, reminding them that mathematics can serve as a passport to a successful future.
The event, which also involved representatives from the Department of Education and Digital Transformation, highlights the ongoing collaboration between the education sector and corporate partners to equip students with the tools they need to succeed.
With the introduction of Achieve Mathematics Grade 1 to Three into classrooms, Aux Lyons Combined School is poised to further strengthen its academic foundation and inspire students to embrace mathematics as a pathway to opportunity.
