The Arkansas Department of Finance and Administration (DFA) is reminding Arkansans that Tax-Free Weekend will begin at 12:01 a.m. on Aug. 1 and continue through 11:59 p.m. on Aug. 2.
Shoppers will not pay the state’s 6.5% sales tax on all qualified items. Local sales tax will also not apply. In addition to on-site purchases, online purchases qualify if the item is shipped to Arkansas. The item may arrive anytime, but the online transaction must take place Aug. 1-2.
“This holiday provides a great opportunity to save money on back-to-school shopping,” said DFA Secretary Jim Hudson. “However, we want to be sure Arkansans are aware of the broader savings available. For example, a business planning on upgrading its laptops or tablets can find significant savings this weekend. Overall, this is an opportunity for Arkansans to save money on clothing, electronics, school and office supplies, and much more.”
Established under Act 757 of 2011, Arkansas’s Sales Tax Holiday happens each year on the first weekend of August. Qualifying items include:
- Clothing and footwear priced under $100 per item
- Clothing accessories under $50 per item
- School supplies, art supplies and instructional materials
- Electronic devices commonly used by students for educational purposes
