The police have registered an FIR against four persons for allegedly dumping garbage at a blackspot that had already been cleared and beautified by the Bengaluru North City Corporation.

According to the complaint filed by Shwetha Charanraj, Assistant General Manager, Sarvajnanagar Division, Bengaluru Solid Waste Management Limited (BSWML), the incident occurred on July 16 at the garbage blackspot located on 7th Main Road, Banaswadi, Ward No. 27, Sarvajnanagar Division.

The blackspot had recently been cleared and beautified as part of the corporation’s drive to eliminate garbage blackspots. Following the restoration of the site, awareness programmes were conducted among residents to discourage indiscriminate dumping of waste, and ward marshals were deployed to monitor the area and take action against violators.

During patrol, on July 16, the ward Marshals allegedly caught four individuals dumping garbage at the site. When they attempted to impose penalties under the prescribed rules, the accused reportedly refused to pay the fines and continued dumping the waste at the location, causing public nuisance and affecting sanitation.

The accused have been identified as Yash, a resident of R.M. Nagar, Banaswadi; Mani, a resident of K.R. Puram; Rudra, a resident of Sai Layout, and Manu, a resident of Balappa Layout.

Based on the complaint, the Banaswadi police registered a case under Section 280 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023 (Making atmosphere noxious to health) and have commenced an investigation.

Officials stated that strict legal action would continue to be taken against persons who dump waste at garbage blackspots that have been permanently eliminated and beautified, litter in public places, or otherwise violate solid waste management rules within the jurisdiction of the north city corporation.
