Parliament has established an Ad Hoc Committee to oversee the work of the Electoral Commission for Sierra Leone (ECSL), marking another step in the implementation of the Tripartite Committee Report aimed at strengthening the country’s electoral governance.

The announcement was made by the Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Segepoh Solomon Thomas, during the parliamentary sitting on Thursday, 23rd July 2026.

The committee, constituted in line with Recommendation 20 of the Tripartite Committee Report, will be chaired by Hon. Abdul Kargbo, while Hon. Matthew S. Nyuma will serve as Deputy Chairman.

Other members of the committee include Hon. BashiruSilikie, Hon. Saa Emerson Lamin, Hon. Dickson Momoh Rogers, Hon. Veronica Kadie Sesay, Hon. Nenneh Lebbie, Hon. Daniel B. Koroma, Hon. Aaron Aruna Koroma, Hon. Catherine Zainab Tarawallie, Hon. Aminata Sesay, Hon. Rugiatu Rosy Kanu, Hon. Bernadette Wuyatta Songa, Hon. Sulaiman MarrayConteh, as well as two Paramount Chief Members of Parliament.

Speaker Thomas further directed both the Government and Opposition sides of Parliament to jointly prepare the Terms of Reference (TORs) for the committee before it commences its assignment, subject to parliamentary approval.

The newly established committee is expected to provide enhanced parliamentary oversight of the Electoral Commission, assess the country’s electoral preparedness, monitor the implementation of electoral reforms, and promote greater transparency, accountability, and public confidence in Sierra Leone’s electoral process.

The formation of the committee represents a significant milestone in implementing the recommendations of the Tripartite Committee, which was established to foster political dialogue and build consensus on reforms following the country’s electoral process. The initiative is widely viewed as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen democratic institutions and ensure more credible, inclusive, and transparent elections in Sierra Leone.
