Newborn found in Indy treeline; police seek mother – Indianapolis News | Indiana Weather | Indiana Traffic

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Indianapolis Metropolitan Police officers are asking for information that will help find a newborn child’s mother.

According to a press release, just before 11:30 Thursday night, IMPD officers were dispatched to Lace Bark Lane and Long Wharf Drive to check the welfare of a child. They found a newborn baby in the treeline near a trail.

The baby was taken to Riley Hospital for Children and is in stable condition.

“Detectives are deeply concerned for the mother, who may need urgent medical attention,” IMPD said. “We want to ensure she is safe and receives care.”

Police are asking anyone with information about the mother, baby or what occurred to contact them. Tipsters can remain anonymous.

IMPD also wanted to remind the public the state’s Safe Haven Law allows a person to safely and anonymously surrender an unwanted infant without fear of arrest of prosecution.
