Former MLA and senior Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) leader T.P.M. Sahir, 83, passed away in Kozhikode on Saturday (July 25, 2026).

He was undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Kozhikode due to age-related ailments.

A prominent figure in the socio-political landscape of Malabar, Sahir represented the Kozhikode-2 (now Kozhikode South) Assembly segment.

An engineer by qualification holding a B.Sc. in Engineering, he seamlessly blended his professional expertise with public service, playing key organisational roles in the IUML over several decades.

In addition to his political career, Mr. Sahir was involved in educational, social, and environmental causes. He was a director of M.E.S. Engineering College, a syndicate member of Cochin University of Science and Technology (CUSAT), and held leadership positions in various civic organisations, including the Calicut Jaycees and Muslim Educational Society initiatives.

The last rites will take place at the Thoppayil Juma Masjid in Kozhikode at 5.30 p.m.
