Delaware Whiskey Festival brings premium pours, cocktail contest to Wilmington

Saturday’s tasting event will feature 50 whiskey selections, VIP access and support for scholarships benefiting local students

WILMINGTON — Whiskey enthusiasts will have an opportunity to sample bourbons, ryes, single malts and international selections Saturday as the Delaware Whiskey Festival returns to Wilmington.

The second annual festival will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. July 25 at The Venue, 2409 Lancaster Ave. A limited VIP session begins at 5 p.m., giving ticket holders early access to the event and its specialty pours.

Organizers say the festival will feature 50 curated whiskey expressions, ranging from bold American bourbons and ryes to refined single malts and internationally produced whiskeys. The event is designed for experienced collectors as well as people who are beginning to explore the differences among whiskey styles.

General admission includes access to the whiskey tastings, a commemorative tasting glass, vendor experiences and a live whiskey cocktail competition.

During the competition, local bartenders will prepare original cocktails using featured whiskeys. Guests will be able to watch as the bartenders combine traditional techniques with new flavors and presentations.

VIP admission includes entry from 5 to 6 p.m., before the general-admission session begins. VIP guests receive first access to limited and specialty pours, a smaller tasting environment and a commemorative glass, along with the benefits included with general admission.

Organizers said the inaugural festival sold out, and VIP tickets are intentionally limited.

The evening also has a charitable purpose. A portion of the festival’s proceeds will benefit Overflow Season Inc., a nonprofit organization that provides scholarships to local high school seniors.

The Delaware Tourism Office lists general admission beginning at $36.42, although prices and ticket availability may change as the event approaches.

The festival is open only to guests 21 and older. Organizers recommend elevated casual attire and encourage guests to arrange safe transportation after the tasting.
