Through a decree published this Friday in the Official Gazette, the Argentine president, Javier Milei pictured below, authorized the departure from the national territory of media and personnel from the three armed forces of the country for their participation in the exercise. Fifty-six personnel from the Argentine Navy, Air Force, and Army will participate in the Panamax 2026 exercise. According to the decree, Argentina will participate in the maneuvers, which will take place from July 27 to August 15, at the invitation of the United States government, which Milei considers, along with Israel, his main ally in foreign policy matters.
“From the point of view of fulfilling national defense objectives, participating in the multinational exercise Panamax 2026 improves the interoperability and doctrinal integration of the Argentine Armed Forces at the regional level,” the Executive stated. The Milei government believes that participating in this exercise demonstrates Argentina’s “commitment” to regional stability and international security, maintaining its reputation as a relevant global actor.
According to the Executive, the Panamax 2026 event “is framed within the actions of military cooperation within the American continent under the command of the Southern Command of the United States and contributes to strengthening mutual trust and integration and interoperability between the armed forces of countries in the region.” In addition to the United States, Panama and Argentina, military personnel from Brazil, Belize, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Mexico, Paraguay and Peru will participate in the exercise based in Panama City.
