Forty homes damaged by mudslides in GBAO’s Rushan district to be rebuilt or repaired within a month

Construction and repair work has begun on 40 homes damaged by mudslides in the villages of Barrushon and Dehrushon in Rushan district, Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Region (GBAO).

Ten houses that were completely destroyed will be rebuilt, while the remaining homes will be repaired according to the extent of the damage. Authorities plan to complete the work within one month.

According to the GBAO regional administration, 10 homes in Barrushon were destroyed, six were partially damaged and 14 sustained minor damage.

In Dehrushon, four houses were partially damaged and six suffered minor damage.

Residents affected by the disaster were evacuated to safe areas and provided with food and other essential supplies.

The mudslides struck on July 20 following a sharp rise in temperatures and intensive glacier melting. No deaths were reported.

Recovery efforts are being carried out on the instructions of President Emomali Rahmon.

A regional emergency task force has been established in the district center under the leadership of GBAO head Sharifkhon Safarzoda. It is operating around the clock to coordinate assistance to residents and oversee reconstruction.

On July 22, Rahmon spoke by phone with the GBAO governor and received a report on the response efforts.

The president instructed regional and central government bodies to eliminate the consequences of the disaster within one month, rebuild damaged homes and other facilities, and provide the necessary support to affected families.

Similar instructions were issued to Prime Minister Qohir Rasoulzoda and the heads of relevant state agencies. According to the presidential administration, the reconstruction work is under the president’s personal supervision.
