HAVANA TIMES – Atmospheric conditions over western Cuba remain typical of the summer season, with intense daytime heating favoring the development of convective clouds and afternoon showers over the capital. The easterly and northeasterly flow continues to bring moisture in from the Atlantic, while winds are showing a tendency to ease compared to the previous week.

Thursday the 23rd and Friday the 24th will maintain the usual convective pattern, with isolated afternoon showers and thunderstorms. Over the weekend, Saturday the 25th and Sunday the 26th, a slight decrease in atmospheric instability is expected, with partly cloudy skies and a lower chance of rain. On Monday the 27th and Tuesday the 28th, afternoon convective activity will increase again, while scattered showers are forecast for Wednesday the 29th, mainly in coastal and inland areas of Havana.

Winds will be predominantly from the east and northeast at speeds of 15 to 30 kilometers per hour (9 to 19 mph), with occasional gusts of up to 40 km/h (25 mph) during thunderstorms. Relative humidity between 60% and 90%. High temperatures will range between 31 and 33ºC (88 and 91ºF), while lows will be between 24 and 25ºC (75 and 77ºF). Sea surface temperatures will remain near 29ºC (84ºF).

In the Atlantic Ocean, Tropical Storm Bertha remains active and is moving through the Gulf of Mexico toward the southern coast of the United States, posing no threat to Cuba. No additional tropical cyclone development is expected in the Caribbean Sea or the rest of the Gulf of Mexico over the next seven days. Cuba’s Institute of Meteorology (Insmet) continues its routine monitoring during the hurricane season, which runs from June 1 through November 30.
