ZAGREB, 20 July 2026 (Croatia Week) – World Cup winners Spain have returned to the top of the FIFA men’s world rankings, while Croatia have slipped to 13th following their campaign at the 2026 World Cup.
Spain reclaimed the No. 1 position for the first time since January after replacing Argentina, who have dropped to second. France remain third, with England holding on to fourth place in the rankings released by FIFA today.
Brazil have moved up to fifth, while Morocco have reached a new record high of sixth after their impressive World Cup campaign.
Portugal have fallen two places to seventh following their Round of 16 exit. Belgium have climbed to eighth, swapping places with the Netherlands, who have dropped to ninth.
Mexico have moved up four places to break into the top 10.
Croatia, meanwhile, have fallen to 13th in the latest rankings. Croatia played four matches at the World Cup, recording victories over Panama and Ghana and defeats to England and Portugal.
Germany have dropped out of the top 10 and are now 12th, one place above Croatia.
Norway climbed 12 places to 19th after reaching the World Cup quarter-finals, whilst Egypt have risen five places to 24th.
Tunisia recorded the biggest fall, dropping 12 places to 57th.
FIFA will publish the next men’s world rankings on 7 October.
