The tight finals match had several high stakes moments. For every impressive shot, the goalkeepers had equally impressive saves to prolong the tied game. Fouls were flying freely, especially as the tied 0-0 score continued late into the second half. Argentina played down a man for much of the second half after midfielder Enzo Fernández was ejected from the game.
With the game’s official time ending at a 0-0 score, the World Cup final went into overtime at New York New Jersey Stadium. Spain scored a goal in the first half of overtime, but it was called back due to a foul. Minutes later, they scored another goal that did count and gave the team the morale boost needed to keep the lead for the rest of overtime.
