If you think summer ends after the Fourth of July, you’re not alone. Some may find you crazy for thinking that, but others will know exactly what you mean.
Before we dive into why it feels like summer flies by, lets consider what we had to go through to get here.
Winter in New Jersey, especially this past year, can be torturous. We dealt with multiple snowstorms that kept the state blanketed with ice and snow for multiple weeks. The temperature stayed below freezing for weeks at a time. The shorter days led to seasonal depression. You finish your workday, and it’s dark outside before you can even get home. Winter always sucks in New Jersey, but this past winter was the worst in a long time.

Spring is so sought after that we convince ourselves March and April are good months. They’re not. This spring showed us that more than ever. The temperature doesn’t rise as quickly as we’d like. It gets incredibly windy and rainy. Pollen is everywhere, making allergies worsen and keeping your car filthy.
Then finally summer arrives. And within the blink of an eye it feels like it’s gone.
I find myself in this boat every year. It feels like summer hits the jet stream once we pass July 4th. The days start getting shorter, the fall and winter feel like they’re breathing down your neck, a cold reminder of what’s coming.
As you’ve heard for generations, time flies when you’re having fun. When you’re out at the beach, or playing a round of golf, or having a cookout on your back patio, the days fly by. The days turn into weeks, which turn into months, and before you know it, they’re gone.
Fall is like watching a sunset fade ever so slowly into the horizon. You can enjoy it momentarily but you know the darkness is looming. That darkness is winter, which feels like watching paint dry.
So why does it feel like summer flies by? Ultimately, it’s PTSD from winter. And I’m right there with you, New Jersey.

Best Off-the-Beaten-Path Getaway Spots to Check Out This Summer in New Jersey
Here’s something to consider, New Jersey residents. If you still want to get away for a little bit this summer but can’t afford it, think about doing a staycation right here in the Garden State.
Sure, you can go to the Jersey Shore, the Wildwoods, Atlantic City, but those are big tourist spots. Consider checking out these 10 getaway spots “off the beaten path.”
