The Lions Club of Antigua, in collaboration with Dr. Dwayne Twaithes, is once again encouraging men across Antigua and Barbuda to take charge of their health by participating in its Annual Prostate Screening Programme, which will be held on Saturday, 15 August 2026, from 7:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the Lions Den, Cross Street.
Now in its 17th year, the programme has become one of the country’s leading men’s health initiatives, providing accessible and affordable prostate cancer screening while raising awareness about the importance of early detection. Over the years, the initiative has benefited hundreds of men by identifying health concerns early and facilitating timely referrals for medical treatment.
Prostate cancer remains one of the most common cancers affecting men worldwide. Medical professionals continue to emphasize that early detection significantly improves treatment outcomes and increases survival rates. The Lions Club of Antigua is therefore urging men, particularly those aged 40 years and older, or those with a family history of prostate cancer, to take advantage of this important screening opportunity.
Registration for the screening is EC$35.00, making it an affordable investment in one’s health and well-being.
In a recent press release, President of the Lions Club of Antigua, Lion Gail Henry- Lewis MJF, stressed the importance of men taking proactive steps to safeguard their health.
“Far too often, men delay seeking medical attention until serious health issues develop. Our annual prostate screening programme is designed to encourage early detection because it truly saves lives. We encourage every man to make his health a priority not only for himself but for his family and loved ones. A few minutes today could make all the difference tomorrow.”
In addition to the health screening, patrons will have the opportunity to support the Antigua Leo Club, whose members will be offering breakfast for sale throughout the morning. Proceeds will assist the Leos in continuing their youth leadership and community service programmes.
