delivered a speech at the Libertas Forum, organized by the European People’s Party (EPP) in Madrid. At the event, she reaffirmed Peru’s commitment to democracy and strengthening cooperation between Europe and Ibero-America.

“Today, I have the honor of addressing you as President-elect of the Republic of Peru, and I thank you for the opportunity to share some reflections on how I believe relations between Europe and Ibero-America should be projected,” Fujimori said in a video released by the Office of the President-elect on X.

“Strengthening our ties and fostering unity in our actions are more necessary today than ever before. We are bound by a deep history, a shared cultural heritage, and a set of principles and values that have enabled us to build freer, more open, and more prosperous societies over the decades,” she added.

During her address, the president-elect warned that the world is facing a range of challenges, including political conflicts, the expansion of transnational organized crime, and irregular migration, among others.

In this regard, she called for a “strong strategic partnership” to foster a common agenda aimed at strengthening security against organized crime, boosting growth, addressing the digital transformation, advancing sustainability and energy security, and reaffirming the commitment to human dignity and fundamental freedoms.

“You can count on Peru as a country from which unity between Europe and Ibero-America can be projected toward the Pacific from our geostrategic position,” Fujimori said.

She also acknowledged the participation of EPP members in the international election observation mission during Peru’s recent electoral process.

The international forum was held in the Spanish capital as part of the celebrations marking the EPP’s 50th anniversary.

The gathering brought together representatives from more than 60 political parties from 42 countries across Europe and Ibero-America to discuss defending democracy and fundamental freedoms in the face of rising populism.
