LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — The University of Nebraska-Lincoln (UNL) announced its initiative to cut several millions from their budget. The budget cuts are in regard to Gov. Jim Pillen’s appeal for reductions.
They will be cutting $13.9 million which is 5% of the entire system.
Pillen called for budget cuts for the benefit of Nebraska taxpayers by controlled spending and hiring freeze. He said it is necessary for property tax relief.
UNL said this is not a good thing for Nebraska.
“It is a serious setback,” Katherine S. Ankerson, Interim Chancellor of UNL, said. “It is not a sustainable path for our university, nor the health and vitality of our state.”
Ankerson said UNL will now have to abstain from scheduled improvements in the classroom, technology and infrastructure.
