In a compelling demonstration of leadership and commitment, the General Manager of the Sierra Leone Airports Authority (SLAA), Mr. Jack D.K. Massaquoi, donated rice and other essential food items to the Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces (RSLAF) personnel engaged in cleaning and beautifying Freetown International Airport and its environs ahead of the ECOWAS Mid-Year Summit.
The donation, made under heavy rainfall in Lungi and witnessed by the Office of National Security (ONS) Airport Security Coordinator/Team Lead, Mr. Patrick Lamin, served as a powerful morale booster, motivating the cleaning teams to press on despite the adverse weather.
Mr. Massaquoi stressed that the success of the Summit depends not only on logistics but also on collective effort, noting that the Armed Forces’ involvement reflects Sierra Leone’s unity and discipline, while SLAA’s support demonstrates responsibility and hospitality as the landlord of the nation’s gateway.
Speaking at the event, ONS Coordinator Patrick Lamin commended the initiative, stating: “This gesture by the SLAA General Manager is a clear demonstration of civil–military cooperation at its best. It shows Sierra Leone is united in its preparations and determined to present a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for our international guests.”
The donation was warmly received by Colonel Sandy’s team, who expressed gratitude for the support, noting that it strengthened their resolve to complete the exercise despite the challenging weather conditions.
This act of solidarity underscores how the SLAA General Manager is going above and beyond his official duties to ensure Sierra Leone’s readiness and success in hosting the ECOWAS Mid-Year Summit at the Freetown International Airport.
