Shingnapur ZP school rat bites: Six girls injured, parents allege poor maintenance

Six girl students of the Zilla Parishad-run Rajarshi Shahu Chhatrapati Vidyaniketan Residential Sports School in Maharashtra’s Karveer were bitten by rats at night, triggering panic among parents.

Following the incident, the parents admitted the students to a private hospital, where they received medical treatment. The incident also sparked outrage among parents and local residents, who accused the administration of poor maintenance and mismanagement.

The school was established in 1968 and has around 100 girls students. According to the information provided, the building’s roof is old and damaged, and rats have made nests inside the structure.

The rat-bite incidents took place over two days and nights in Room No 2 of the Tararani Sadan residential block. As news of the incident spread, parents rushed to the school and took the injured students to a private hospital for treatment.

Meanwhile, parents and residents alleged that the Zilla Parishad administration spent 10 crore on constructing a cultural hall next to the school but failed to pay attention to the maintenance of the building where the students live. They said the students are now bearing the consequences of the administration’s neglect.
