KAKINADA: Rail services on the busy Visakhapatnam-Vijayawada section were disrupted after a goods train carrying iron load derailed at Tuni railway station in Kakinada district on Thursday night. The goods train was travelling from Visakhapatnam towards Vijayawada when two of its wagons went off the tracks. According to preliminary information, the derailment occurred after the train crossed a railway bridge and was entering the loop line at Tuni station.

No casualties or injuries were reported. Soon after the incident, railway officials, engineers and maintenance personnel rushed to the site and began restoration work to clear the affected track and restore normal rail traffic. Heavy equipment was pressed into service to rerail the wagons and inspect the track for any damage.

The derailment led to disruption of train operations on the route, affecting several passenger services between Visakhapatnam and Vijayawada. As a precautionary measure, a number of trains were detained at Gullipadu, Yelamanchili and Narsipatnam Road stations until restoration work could progress.

Among the trains delayed were the Visakhapatnam-Mahabubnagar Superfast Express, the Visakhapatnam-Secunderabad Garib Rath Express and the Ernakulam Express, besides several other services operating on the corridor. Passengers experienced delays as railway authorities regulated traffic on the affected stretch.

Railway officials said restoration operations were being carried out on a priority basis to resume normal movement of trains at the earliest. Technical teams are also examining the cause of the derailment, and a detailed inquiry has been initiated to ascertain the circumstances that led to the incident. No damage to public property beyond the affected wagons and track has been officially reported.
