Sprinter Makanakaishe Charamba continued his impressive 2026 campaign after finishing second in the men’s 200m at the Hungarian Grand Prix on Tuesday.

Charamba clocked 20.03 seconds to secure the runner-up spot behind Morocco’s Yassine Hssine, who had a personal best time of 19.92 seconds. Hssine’s winning time also established a new Moroccan national record.

Charamba’s podium finish ensured Zimbabwe was represented among the medal winners in a race dominated by African athletes, with Nigeria’s Ododi Chudi Onwuzurike taking third place.

The result provides another significant confidence boost for the Zimbabwean sprinter, who has enjoyed a consistent run of strong performances on the international circuit as he builds towards the major championships later this year.

Charamba has emerged as one of Zimbabwe’s most promising track athletes, steadily enhancing his reputation since announcing himself on the global stage with an impressive showing at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games.
