The preliminary round of the 23rd edition of Technothlon, the flagship international school championship organised by Techniche, IIT Guwahati, concluded on July 12, drawing a record participation of more than 60,000 students from India and abroad.
Open to students of Classes 9 to 12, Technothlon is a theme-based logic examination designed to test reasoning, creativity and analytical thinking beyond conventional school syllabi. The competition saw participation from students representing schools, Kendriya Vidyalayas, Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas, Army Public Schools, coaching institutes and other educational institutions.
Organised entirely by students of IIT Guwahati, Technothlon has been conducted for more than two decades. This year’s edition was led by chief organisers Ritik, Poulomi, Shreshtha, Deep, Kabya and Uday, along with a team of student volunteers.
Commenting on the conclusion of the preliminary round, Uday Ingle, Convenor of Techniche 2026, said, “Technothlon has always been more than a competition—it is a platform that encourages students to think critically, question fearlessly, and embrace the joy of learning. The overwhelming participation this year reflects the growing enthusiasm among young minds for exploring knowledge beyond the classroom. We look forward to welcoming the finalists to the IIT Guwahati campus and providing them with an inspiring experience of innovation, technology, and collaboration.”

Following the prelims, the top 25 teams from each of the two categories, Hauts and Juniors, will qualify for the Technothlon Mains, which will be held at the IIT Guwahati campus during Techniche, the institute’s annual techno-management festival, in August.
Apart from competing in the final round, the shortlisted students will have the opportunity to engage with activities related to technology, innovation and research during the festival.
According to the organisers, the Grand Champions in each category will receive cash prizes worth more than Rs 2.7 lakh, along with an educational visit to the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO). Previous editions of the competition have also provided winners with educational visits to NASA.
Technothlon is organised under the motto, “Inspiring Young Minds”, with the objective of promoting logical thinking, curiosity and problem-solving among school students. The organisers said the event will now move to the final stage, where qualifying teams from across the country will compete at IIT Guwahati in August.
