Guwahati: The Kuki Inpi Manipur (KIM) on Wednesday alleged that Teikhang and Lenglong villages in Manipur’s Noney district came under a coordinated armed attack, resulting in arson and widespread destruction, and urged the Centre to intervene immediately.
In a press statement, KIM claimed the attack took place at around 2 pm and alleged that it was carried out by cadres of the NSCN (Muivah) and ZUF-K. The organisation described the incident as a serious escalation of violence and accused the groups of targeting Kuki-Zo villages.
The apex Kuki body alleged that the attack was part of a broader campaign aimed at displacing Kuki-Zo communities and altering the demographic composition of the region. It further claimed that the violence was linked to efforts to advance the proposed “Greater Nagalim” agenda. These allegations could not be independently verified.
KIM also criticised the state government, alleging that it had failed to protect vulnerable frontier villages from armed attacks. The organisation said the incident highlighted what it described as a breakdown of law and order and internal security in the state.
Reiterating its long-standing political demand, KIM said the latest incident reinforced its call for a Separate Administration with Union Territory status for the Kuki-Zo people under the Constitution. According to the organisation, such an arrangement is necessary to ensure the security and protection of the community.
The organisation appealed to the Central government to launch immediate action against the alleged perpetrators, expedite the process for creating a Union Territory with a legislature for the Kuki-Zo people, and strengthen security in the affected areas. It also urged national and international media to closely monitor developments in the region.
There was no immediate response from the Manipur government, the NSCN (Muivah), or ZUF-K regarding the allegations at the time of filing this report.
