DCG is all grown up. *** week before their first game of the season, they were bumped to Class 5A. Tonight they punched their ticket to the state tournament. Jenna Gray, *** home run into the corn, and they were rolling. They beat Cedar Rapids Prairie 11 to 3 to claim the banner. They are headed to Fort Dodge. Hi everyone, what *** fun night. We got *** lot in store for you here. Regional softball finals for. 3A, 4A, and 5A plus substate baseball for 1A and 2A as they’re trying to go to state their finals tonight as well. But we’re gonna start back with softball. *** lot of fun to get to. Super hot out there for the fans, staying cool, but the show must go on. Kaylee Tamonre poking it through the gap to get the scoring going for the Rams as they were hosting Ottumwa. 10 in the second. Adeline Thompson on the mound, getting out of the inning and stopping the bleeding quick with the ground out. Ivy Orrico finding *** sweet spot of the bat here and taking one deep off the center fielder’s glove, going to drive in not one, but two runs. Rams get it done 5-0. And there it is. They are headed back to state for the 2nd year in *** row. They’re my best friends. I don’t know what I would do without them, and never failed to back me up and always have my back. I would take them over anybody. It’s *** really special group and I’m really excited for state. Golden State. Roosevelt went to Valley trying to knock off the Tigers and make it to State. First inning, Valley has runners on. Lily Finn, *** sharp hit, but Roosevelt’s shortstop Haley Burola, great play to end the inning and keep it scoreless. Couldn’t keep Valley off the board for long. Second inning, that’s junior Jordan Huffman driving in Isa Brower, who gets some love from her teammates in the dugout. Valley goes up 7-1. They win 7-3 back to the state tournament again. I’m really, really proud of our girls. It’s *** very good Roosevelt team we beat. They, they beat us early in the season, 2 to 1. We knew it would be *** hard fought game tonight, and we took advantage of every opportunity we had. I mean, it just means *** lot. We want to carry the tradition that’s up on that scoreboard, and that means *** lot to us as *** team. How about PCM having *** fantastic year, hosting Algona scoreless in the top of the 4th, Algona NY. Jillian Bururns rounder to 2nd, Lillian Knapp drops into the splits for the out. Well done. Bottom 4, runner on 3rd, no score. Tory Lindsey sends it to the moon. Burns makes the catch. Holly Wood, all-name team, scores on the throw. PCM first on the board. Same inning. Mustang’s Hadley Malaying on third. Camden Webb’s going to send this through for the RBI single. PCM goes up 2-0. Algoa trying to escape the fourth. Addie Hudnutt, *** frozen rope out to center. Gabby Ventiker makes *** diving catch. And then PCM pitcher Libby Winters completes the shutout. PCM going back to Fort Dodge with *** 2-0 win over Algona. 1A and 2A baseball sub-state finals were tonight. *** Rapids Bayard showing up big time at Valley High School. Lennox coming to play. Winston Adams bringing in Brogan Peterson. This cuts the CRB lead. To 3-1. Just one problem. Ty Hayden was pitching and that’s bad news. Virtually unhittable, mowing down the Tigers, keeping them guessing. Here’s your final out. Hayden ending it in style with *** strikeout, tossing up his glove, somehow surviving the dogpile. The Crusaders, they’re back at state for the first time in seven years. It’s been one long year, *** lot of work, uh, these kids, you know, got beat in the substate game of the basketball tournament, and so it’s it’s kind of frustration, so it just feels like *** monkey off their back and I, I, to be honest with you, I’m just so happy for them. They, they put in *** lot of time and I couldn’t be more overjoyed. Oh my gosh, we’re full of emotion. I’m so excited, um, you know, all the work we put in for the spring and, and the winter, you know, it’s finally kind of showing through and, um, you know, there’s not *** team I’d rather do this with. Really great moment out there for them. Now, two of the top teams in 1A, Moravia and Martinsdale Saint Mary’s meeting in Knoxville. Martinsdale-S Saint Mary’s ranked 3, down 2-0 in the fifth. Brady Baker with 2 outs and *** runner on cooks up *** clutch single to cut the lead to 2-1. That scored Jack Gavin. But it’s day 2-1, it’s the bottom of the seventh. Moravia’s Blake Ewing gets Cooper Hamilton to line out and that is it. Moravia celebrates the 2-1 upset to punch their ticket to Carroll. They haven’t made it to state in 38 years.
