19-year-old arrested after LR traffic stop
A teenager was arrested in Little Rock after a firearm and marijuana were found in his possession, according to an arrest report.
Cavon Omar Campbell, 19, was detained at 2 a.m. Monday at 5223 S. University Ave. after officers conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle. The vehicle was pulled over for expired tags that were improperly displayed, the report says.
Police identified Campell as a rear seat passenger during the stop. During the investigation officers smelled the odor of marijuana and noticed green residue on a juvenile rear passenger’s lap.
Police said the driver had a search waiver on file. After discovering contraband in the rear seating area, police searched a backpack provided by the juvenile passenger.
When police opened the bag, the juvenile fled on foot and was apprehended, the report says. Inside the backpack, officers found a black Taurus G2C handgun as well as Campbell’s social security card, wallet, ID card and other documents, police said. The weapon had been reported stolen, according to the report.
While searching Campbell, officers located two plastic bags in his left pocket and right sock, both containing a green “veggie matter,” police said.
Campbell was charged with a felony count of theft by receiving-firearm, as well as two misdemeanors for possession of schedule VI and contributing to the delinquency of a minor, the report says.
