London: According to reports, Dravid is among the names being considered by the England and Wales Cricket Board as it begins the search for a new Test coach ahead of a crucial rebuilding phase and the next Ashes cycle. Former England coach Andy Flower and ex-England spinner Richard Dawson are also believed to be in contention for the role.

McCullum’s four-year tenure as England’s Test coach came to an end after England suffered a 1-2 home series defeat to New Zealand. The ECB reportedly felt the time was right for a change in the Test setup, although McCullum will continue to lead England’s ODI and T20I teams.

Dravid, 53, is viewed as a strong candidate because of his calm leadership, meticulous planning and deep understanding of Test cricket. He previously guided India to the 2024 T20 World Cup title and also led the side to the 2023 World Test Championship final.

However, the report added that Dravid may not be keen on taking up a full-time coaching role. The England Test job, though, could still appeal to him as it may offer extended periods at home while giving him a chance to work closely with the format he is known to value deeply.

Among the other leading names, Andy Flower brings a strong record, having previously led England to three Ashes series victories and the No. 1 Test ranking. Other names reportedly linked with the role include Kumar Sangakkara, Andrew Flintoff, Mike Hesson and Justin Langer.
