A visit to Bung Hatta’s home as a spirit to advance Indonesia’s cooperative – OBSERVER

Jakarta, IO – Cooperatives Minister Ferry Juliantono and Deputy Minister Farida Farichah, visited the home of Indonesia’s founding father and “Father of Cooperatives,” Bung Hatta, on Jalan Diponegoro No. 57, Menteng, Central Jakarta, on Sunday, July 12 to honor Bung Hatta and his family in establishing the principles and values of Indonesia’s cooperative movement.

The visit also commemorated the 79th National Cooperatives Day (Harkopnas) on July 12. Bung Hatta’s children: Meutia Hatta and husband Prof. Sri Edi Swasono, Gemala Hatta, Halida Hatta and academic Rocky Gerung welcomed the minister and deputy minister.

Minister Ferry said the visit was also an opportunity to reflect on Bung Hatta’s legacy, leadership, and vision that remains relevant despite the challenges of modern capitalism.

“In line with President Prabowo Subianto’s vision, we will restore our economic system and practices to remain far from liberal capitalist ideology, as the principles enshrined in the 1945 Constitution, particularly Article 33, which places cooperatives at the heart of the national economy,” Ferry said.

He emphasized that the Ministry of Cooperatives, the Indonesian Cooperative Council (Dekopin), regional governments, and various stakeholders are working together to realize Bung Hatta’s vision of making cooperatives the backbone of Indonesia’s economy by supporting Merah Putih Village and Urban Cooperative (KDKMP) program.

Ferry added that cooperatives serve as the economic system most closely aligned with the values of Pancasila and the 1945 Constitution.

“This is certainly not an easy task, but the Ministry of Cooperatives, together with the entire cooperative movement, will strengthen our national economic ideology,” he said.

To implement the KDKMP program effectively, Ferry called for support from all stakeholders, including Bung Hatta’s family. He said that Bung Hatta’s family’s continuous support and commitment are essential to realizing the vision established by the late Proclamator.

“We fully understand that achieving this vision requires support from all parties, as well as the ability to translate Bung Hatta’s great ideas into practical and effective policies,” he said. (eka)
